Man caves: sheds fitted out inside
A shed doesn’t have to stop at the roller door. Phil and the team keep going: lining, insulation, carpet, power, a bar and a place for the dartboard, in a new shed or the one you already have.

From a bare shed to a room you use
Ply-lined walls and ceiling, insulation behind them, carpet or a sealed floor, a glazed door and a window. That turns a bay of the shed into a room you can use all year, and lock.
Power and lights go in through an electrician Phil brings in, and the joinery through a joiner, so you deal with one builder for the whole job.
- Lining and insulation
- Carpet or a sealed floor
- Doors, windows and a lockable entry
- Power and lights, by the electrician we bring in
- Shelving, benches and a bar

A bar, a games room, a place to watch the rugby
One garage became a panelled bar with lit shelves, a long timber bar top and a dartboard alcove, with the electrical and joinery trades run by Phil. One cedar-lined entertaining room was built around an outdoor fireplace. A fly-fishing hut Phil built now lets for around $1,000 a night.
The more unusual the job, the more Phil likes it.

One builder from the slab to the fit-out
When the same team pours the slab, builds the shed and fits it out, the room is planned from the start: the floor level, the window, the wall that takes the bar and where the power comes in.
Already have the shed? Phil can fit out the one you’ve got.

What a toilet, kitchen or bedroom changes
A lined shed with power can stay inside the small-building exemptions when it meets their conditions. Adding a toilet, a shower, a kitchen or a bedroom takes it outside them.
Phil talks through what your fit-out includes and the consent route it needs when he quotes, so the room is built for the rules it sits under.

How a man cave job runs
Tell us about the shed
Use the planner, call, or send the form with a few photos of the site.
Phil comes out and quotes
He walks the site with you, checks the zone and the ground, and quotes the job himself.
Know what happens when
You get a timeline for the build and staged payments that match your job, so you know what’s coming next.
Slab, poles and frame
The team boxes and pours the slab, stands the poles and puts the frame and roof up.
Clad, closed in, fitted out
Cladding, doors and windows go on, then the lining and fit-out if you want one.

What sets the price
- How big, and how many bays
- Open bays, or closed in with roller doors and windows
- Steel or cedar cladding, and the spouting
- The slab: size, and the ground it sits on
- Lining, insulation and how far the fit-out goes
- The wind and snow your site is rated for
- The way in for trucks and gear
Questions
Another question? Call 0800 001 297 or send it with your quote.
Can you fit out a shed I already have?
Yes. Phil looks at the frame and the floor first, then quotes the lining, insulation and fit-out.
Who does the electrical work?
A registered electrician Phil brings in and runs as part of the job.
Do I need a consent for a man cave?
A lined shed with power can stay exempt when it meets the conditions. A toilet, shower, kitchen or bedroom takes it outside those exemptions, and Phil talks through the consent route when he quotes.
Can it have a bar?
Yes: one garage we fitted out has a panelled bar, lit shelves and a dartboard alcove.
